Rowe · Curated Hampers

For the person who has everything, give the one thing they don't.

Hand-built leather chests, filled with the finest of Japan and sealed with your name. Composed one at a time, for the few people whose regard you cannot buy off a shelf.

The House

A gift to a person of consequence is never about the thing. It is about the care taken — and whether it can be seen.

Rowe is a house, not a shop. Our mark — four roses bound by a single ribbon — is the whole philosophy: a few fine things, chosen for one person, tied together with care. We take a small number of commissions each season, assemble each by hand, and never repeat one.

Est. Jakarta · Sourced in Japan

Provenance

Sourced from named makers

Single-estate gyokuro from Uji, aged shōchū, sake from family kura, chocolate from a Tokyo atelier of eight people. Every jar and tin carries the maker's name, not ours.

The chest

Built to outlast its contents

Full-grain leather over a hardwood carcass, solid copper corners and clasp, monogram debossed by hand. It is the object that stays on the desk long after the tea is gone.

Discretion

Delivered by our own hands

No couriers, no cardboard. A member of the house delivers each chest personally, with your handwritten card, at the hour you name.

The Collections

Three chests. Each a starting point.

Every collection is composed to order and finished with the recipient's initials. Contents shift with the season and with what our makers release; the chest is constant. Pricing is shared in consultation.

The drawers of a Rowe Signature Commission: chocolates, incense, a leather journal, furoshiki-wrapped gifts

The Signature Commission

When the recipient's name should be on the lid

For the gifts that matter most — a merger closed, a chairman retiring, a family's fortieth Lunar New Year together — we build the chest from a blank sheet. You tell us about the person. We do the rest.

  • Their monogram, or yours, tooled into the lid and every item within
  • Allocations of whisky and sake that never reach retail
  • Furoshiki silk woven to a colour you choose, wrapping the pieces inside
  • A leather journal, incense set or lacquerware added to the drawers
  • Your note, written in our calligrapher's hand, in English or Japanese
  • A single commission, or an edition of twelve for the whole board

Occasions

The moments that ask for more than flowers

We keep a calendar for our clients and begin composing weeks ahead, so a chest is never late and never generic. Tell us the date; we will remind you.

Lunar New Year

Red-and-gold furoshiki, pairs of everything, teas chosen for prosperity. Our busiest season — commissions open in November.

Eid al-Fitr

Alcohol-free compositions built around rare teas, honey, wagashi and ceramics, delivered before the first day of Syawal.

Closing a deal

For the counterparty, the advisers, the banker who stayed up. A chest that says the relationship outlasts the transaction.

Board appointments & retirements

The Rowe Trunk with tasting notes and the recipient's years of service tooled beneath the monogram.

Weddings & anniversaries

A pair of chawan, a sake to be opened on the tenth year, and a note held for that date by the house.

Christmas & year end

Editions for a family office's principals or a private bank's most valued clients, each subtly different from the next.

A private thank-you

The Kotobuki Chest, hand-delivered the same week, for a kindness that ought not to go unmarked.

Something we have not thought of

Tell us. The house has composed for a first flight, a horse's first win and a grandson's first tooth.

How it works

From a conversation to a chest on their table

Most commissions take between seven days and three weeks. Where the calendar is unkind, tell us — the house has never missed a date.

1

Consultation

A call, or tea at our atelier. We ask about the recipient — their habits, their table, what they already have — and the occasion. Twenty minutes is usually enough.

2

Composition

Within two days you receive a proposed composition with the makers named and a photograph of the chest, and one price. Adjust anything.

3

Craft

The chest is tooled, the pieces gathered from Japan, the furoshiki tied, the card written. You are sent a photograph before it is closed.

4

Delivery

A member of the house delivers personally, at the hour you choose, and confirms to you when it is in the recipient's hands.

Private Consultation

Tell us about the person.

Leave a few lines and a member of the house will reply within one working day to arrange a conversation. Nothing you share is stored beyond your commission, and no recipient is ever contacted by us without your word.
